Late October 2014

John Parker (Owner), Chase Weber (Head Chef), Clancy Rasmussen (Venue Manager)

What inspired you to open your venue?

We were aiming to fill a gap in the market ‐ a late night venue that is fun and relaxed, serves great food at all open hours, has a well‐stocked bar and unforgettable cocktails, with great music and friendly service.

What is your venue known for?

Great service, great food, great drinks, great music.

What is the best thing about your venue?

Our unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere.

Who designed your venue?

John Parker

How important has the quality of design been to establishing the identity/ atmosphere of your venue?

Extremely important - the design directly reflects the personality of The Standard – unique, relaxed and unpretentious. We really want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable, and have a great time.

Perth is seen as an emerging city, especially in recent years with an increase in more interesting bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops – do you feel like there are more opportunities in WA right now?

For sure – Perth people are well travelled and hungry for new places and experiences that are on par with the rest of the country or the world. Perth is a fantastic canvas, and has always had intense hubs of great creativity, but lately there seems to be a much wider and more receptive audience to new and unique things.

Creators and innovators are becoming confident now to bring their fantastic ideas to life.

What do you think makes living and working in Western Australia special?

Perth has all the natural trimmings of a perfect paradise but the benefits of being a capital city – a rare combination.

Where is your favourite hometown spot?

Northbridge; which is going nuts right now. Perth as a whole is transforming in front of our eyes – it is such an exciting and inspiring time to be here.

What are your favourite local buildings?

- State Theatre Centre of WA.

- The new City of Perth Library

- The new Treasury building

What should we expect to see from you in the future?

‘Halford’ and ‘St Larry’

Beer, wine or cocktail?

All of the above ‐ in moderation of course!
